Dr Ashok Seth

Biography

Dr. Ashok Seth serves as Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi; Chairman of Fortis Healthcare Medical Council; and Adjunct Professor of Cardiology at JN Medical College (Aligarh Muslim University). For the last 40 years Dr. Seth has been involved in Interventional Cardiology, contributing significantly to the development, scientific progress and education in this field. He has developed numerous angioplasty techniques for India and Asia Pacific including Impella supported complex angioplasties, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL).

Throughout his career, he has conducted over 25,000 angioplasties and 60,000 angiographies, and he also features in the LIMCA Book of Records. He serves as the President of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC) organization and is a Past President of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI). In recognition of his accomplishments, Dr. Seth has received the National Honour of Padma Shri in 2003, the Padma Bhushan in 2015, and the B.C.Roy National Award for Eminent Medical Person, bestowed upon him by the President of India during January 2017. Additionally, he has earned the National Honour of Republic of Spain Crus Officer, with Insignia Order of Isabella the Catholic, the Master Interventionalist (MSCAI) distinction from the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (USA), and the Lifetime Achievement in Interventional Cardiology Award from the Chien Foundation (Singapore), along with 100 other national and international awards.

Dr. Seth has received Doctorates from six major national universities, including BHU, AMU, Jamia Millia Islamia, Amity, Shiv Nadar, and Teerthankar Mahavir University. He is also a Founder/Course Director of five major National & International Angioplasty Teaching Courses: India Live, India Valves, and CHIP-CTO India, AICT-Asia PCR, and Imaging & Physiology Council of India. Dr. Seth has been invited to lecture at more than 600 National & International meetings and teach complex angioplasty techniques through Live Demonstration at more than 150 national & international meetings all over the world, including the prestigious TCT (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics) in the USA, Euro PCR in Paris, and Singapore Live in Singapore.

He has authored over 500 peer-reviewed publications in Indian and International medical journals, along with chapters in 30 books relating to Cardiology; he has also been the Editor of 3 books. He is a renowned teacher and has trained over 500 cardiologists in India and abroad in advanced techniques of angioplasty. He has acted as Principal Investigator on many studies especially of 'made in India' medical devices and is an honorary advisor/consultant to medical device innovator companies – Meril, Abbott, SMT etc. He also acts as proctor and trains other interventional cardiologists in the technique of TAVI for Myval, Evolut and Accurate Neo transcatheter valves.
