Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin is one of India’s foremost liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgeons.
Dr. Arvinder Singh is the Chairman of the Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram.
He earned his MBBS and MS in Surgery from AIIMS, Delhi, followed by advanced fellowships from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Later, he trained at Cambridge and Birmingham in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. He also completed specialist fellowships in Kyoto and Seoul.
Since 1998, he has built India’s leading liver transplant program across several hospitals—Apollo, Sir Ganga Ram, and now Medanta—where he leads a high-performing, world-class team.
He had a 5,000+ surgery milestone with over 2,500 liver transplants (living donor, cadaveric, dual lobe, paediatric, ABO-incompatible, swap) and more than 12,000 complex liver, gallbladder, and bile duct procedures. His team manages 25–30 transplants monthly with an impressive 95% success rate.
For service to medicine, Dr. Soin received the Padma Shri in 2010. He has also received national honours, including the R.D. Birla Award, Swasth Bharat Samman, Medical Statesman of the Year, and awards from the British Transplantation Society.

He led India’s first successful adult and paediatric liver transplants in 1998. Since then, he introduced complex procedures like living donor right and left lobe transplants, cadaveric dual-organ transplants, donor swaps, and ABO-incompatible transplants.
