Dr Atul Mathur

Biography

Dr. Atul Mathur is the Chairman of Interventional Cardiology and the Chief of the Cath Lab at Fortis Escort Heart Institute, New Delhi, and also the president of the Indian Council for Carotid Therapeutics India. He is a pioneer not only in complex coronary procedures but has also helped to create the new field of Endovascular (Carotid stenting, Aortic Graft Stenting, Peripheral arterial and venous Angioplasty) and Structural heart (TAVR, Mitra Clip, LAAO, BMV, Adult VSD closure) interventions. Who was the first Indian doctor to obtain a US patent for a medical device in Carotid Artery Stenting? 

Establishing center of excellence. Not content with simply performing thousands of these procedures, he has established a center of excellence, from which courses are organized year after year bringing together Indian physicians from across the country to engage in the field of Carotid interventions. His contributions, which include several hundred research publications, have been acknowledged by experts both nationally as well as internationally. Several of the first time procedures performed in the country as a result of his pioneering work are now obtained elsewhere. Also, a significant part of his existing profile stems from what he received in training and workplace experience at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, and University of Alabama, Birmingham, United States.
