Dr Balaji Ramani is a leading surgical oncologist, he is also a highly respected and well-known surgeon within the field of surgery for cancer in Chennai, India, with expertise in techniques using minimally invasive surgery, gynaecologic oncology, surface and peritoneal malignancies, and oncoplastic surgery.
Dr Balaji graduated with an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) at Government Stanley Medical College in Chennai, where he completed his MS (Master of Surgery) in General Surgery at Madurai Medical College, considered to be one of the best medical colleges in South India. While at Madurai Medical College he became a multiple award winner for academic excellence, winning multiple gold medals.
His passion for holistically treating patients with cancer initially began while he was a student at the internationally recognised Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar. After completing his studies there he was awarded the title of Best Outgoing Student for his work serving the cancer community in that region of India. When he graduated from there, he immediately enrolled in the MRCS (Member of the Royal College of Surgeons) programme to complete his surgical oncology training, where he gained additional knowledge of global standards in the management of cancer.
For many years, Dr.Balaji has worked in many prestigious organisations such as Apollo Specialty Hospitals and MGM Healthcare where he managed complex cancer care initiatives that include, but are not limited to; cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC); minimal closure of gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers; and surgery for breast conservation employing cutting-edge reconstructive and aesthetic surgical technology.
He is a passionate advocate of clinical research as evidenced by his ongoing contribution of original scientific research articles, including rare tumour case reports to top-tier indexed oncology journals.
Dr. Balaji is also an Assistant Professor involved in the educational process of training the next generation of cancer surgeons in his capacity in the field of surgical oncology.
