Dr. Govini is an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in advanced surgical treatments for patients with chronic lung conditions, including severe asthma and dysfunctional airway disease.
Dr. Govini is an accomplished cardiac thoracic surgeon who specializes in developing surgical treatment options for patients suffering from chronic lung problems (chronic asthma) when the lungs have substantial chronic lung damage (Dysfunctional Airway Disease). He has been trained by many of the world’s leading heart and lung transplant surgeons in locations such as Hong Kong and the United States and is considered to be one of the pioneers in developing a heart and lung transplant program in India, with transplants performed on patients aged 17 to 73.
Dr. Govini has developed a specialty in the use of Living Donor Lung Transplants, using the left lobe of one donor and the right lobe of another, primarily used in pediatric patients. He is also very experienced with techniques for minimally invasive and video-assisted surgery techniques, including Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS). While Dr. Govini primarily communicates in Telugu (his first language) he is also fluent in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and English. A few notable accomplishments of Dr. Govini include performing over 7000 open-heart surgeries and closed-heart surgeries on both adults and children, transplanting over 350 lungs and hearts as well as being a leader in the development of Living Donor Lung Transplants in India, and performing Laser Lung Surgery.
