Currently, Dr Joy Varghese is working as a consultant hepatologist at the Gleneagles Health City, Chennai, India, This doctor is among the most senior transplant hepatologists in the country, with over a decade of experience in the medical field, During this time, he has successfully performed over 1500 liver transplant surgeries. He has also helped to establish a comprehensive liver transplant program in both government and private hospitals and Institutions throughout Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
In addition, as a general hepatologist with extensive experience, he has lectured to more than 1000 medical professionals about the many aspects of liver disease, including transplantation. In addition, he is the first physician in India to perform therapeutic plasma exchange in patients with liver disease and to perform hepatitis B virus-infected liver transplants using hyper-immune plasma. In addition to the above, he is an accomplished author with over 100 original medical journal publications.
