About Hospital
On February 12, 1999, Padmashri Prof. Dr. P. V. A. Mohandas inaugurated the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (M.I.O.T) as a 70 bedded hospital that had full time doctors mainly focussing on Orthopaedics and Trauma Care. It was soon realised that some of the trauma cases, often brought to the emergency departments in critical conditions, came with pre existing comorbidities involving the heart, the kidneys etc. To stabilise and provide complete end to end care for these trauma cases, their pre existing conditions had to be managed along with appropriate trauma care. In other instances, traumas presented as injuries to the organs and in these circumstances, members of the team needed to be specialists in their fields. The time sensitive nature of trauma cases and trauma care in general, called for full time specialists to provide the best care possible in an appropriate time.
MIOT International is a 1000-bed hospital specializing in quaternary care services across 63 specialties. Among the campus amenities is a leading imaging sciences department and a state-of-the-art laboratory (ranked 8 out of 1236 for labs globally). Our hospital features 21 state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped with the latest technology and instruments, enabling our surgeons to perform highly complex procedures. The patient rooms offer expansive views of greenery, while strategically placed atriums throughout the building facilitate natural light and airflow. There are separate entrances for emergency, OP (out-patients), in-patients, and attendants. Strict infection control systems, combined with advanced HVAC systems, maintain an almost bacteria-free environment.

We ensure patient safety by practicing evidence based medicine and having rigorous infection control procedures in place.
Evidence-based medicine is defined as 'the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients'. At MIOT this means having correct diagnoses from comprehensive evaluations and the use of the latest medical technology to facilitate specialists in choosing the best treatment practices for that specific patient.
Keeping infection at bay
Again, infection control is significant at MIOT International, where all of the modern and modular OTs are entirely sterile, as are our state-of-the-art ICUs and HEPA-filtered wards. The hospital's design also utilises laminated air-flow systems to circulate fresh air. There are also separate entry points for in-patients, out-patients, emergency patients, and OTs and ICUs to reduce the risk of infection.
As part of treatment, all blood and blood products are leucodepleted to make them safer for patients. The Automated Central Sterile Supply Unit sterilises all materials used in the OTs, ICUs and patient rooms. We also make every efforts to ensure that every common area is being cleaned and kept as germ free as possible.
